University Campus and related urban context in MED area support a big pressure from student's flows and their mobility in Campus and interconnected urban area. Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) or measures in MED area are not implemented in regards of students mobility and there is a lack of multi-criteria methods, evaluation of alternatives, ICT (information Communication Technology) and DSS (Decision Support System) in the analysis for a long-term strategy for students mobility. In MED countries, contrarily of the North of Europe, there is a lack of use of sustainable mobility (pedestrian, bike, LPT, multi-modal mobility,…) even if there are favorable conditions.
What is proposed?
The University Campus mobility management combined with an innovative approach to sustainable mobility plan and its instruments in different countries of MED area will provide an efficient action plan to improve the management and planning of mobility in University urban context.
CAMP-sUmp project aims to study an innovative mobility strategy for students flows inside the University Campus and their interconnection with the urban MED area, implementing and improving sustainable urban planning instruments like SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning).
The project wants to study how the improvement of instruments for sustainable urban mobility plans concerning students mobility will resolve students flow mobility congest in MED urban area.
The partnership, featured by 7 universities: Magna Graecia Catanzaro University Foundation, National Technical University of Athens, University of Malta, University of Valencia, University of Split, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, University of Cyprus and Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, wants to:
- Increase awareness of decision makers about current mobility in university area and its interconnection with mobility planning;
- Improve capacity of public administration on sustainable mobility planning in University Campus;
- Improve the management of mobility of University and city in a unique integrated planning.
The project will produce 1 action plan divided into 2 parts:
- one for the university campus inside the urban context,
- one for the university campus outside the urban context.
It will represent a unique model and future tailored action plans adaptable for different MED universities
A road map model for the implementation of the action plan will:
- describe steps and tools
- ensure commitment for decision makers, consistency and viability of the action plan implementation in term of social, economic and environmental sustainability
- improve capacities of public administration on sustainable mobility planning in university campus
The ICT model will include a mobility data-warehouse, decision support system (DSS), with real-time interfacing to the external databases available, and will enable:
- synergy planning
- management monitoring
